CINDY HUYNH
Miss World New South Wales
Cindy Huynh is Miss World New South Wales and a mental health advocate focused on early intervention, education, and cultural change around violence and stigma. At a time when Australia continues to face rising rates of youth mental health distress, Cindy is using her platform to challenge the tendency to respond only once crisis occurs - advocating instead for support long before young people reach breaking point.
Born and raised in South Western Sydney to immigrant parents, Cindy’s early life was shaped by significant instability and adversity. From a young age, she experienced family violence, abuse, and trauma, alongside the responsibility of caring for her younger siblings. By her early teens, Cindy had endured repeated hospitalisations and complex mental health challenges while navigating an environment that offered little protection or understanding.
Rather than allowing these experiences to define her, Cindy made a conscious decision to “turn the script.” She rejects the notion that people who experience trauma are broken or in need of fixing. Instead, she speaks openly about healing as an ongoing process - one that requires support, community, and the freedom to feel pain without shame. This perspective now underpins her advocacy work and leadership.
Cindy’s focus within the mental health space is early intervention. She believes mental health is influenced by a wide range of social, environmental, and relational factors, and that meaningful change requires addressing these influences before they escalate into crisis. She is particularly passionate about shifting conversations away from stigma and silence, and toward prevention, education, and collective responsibility.

In response to this mission, Cindy founded Within Aspirations, an initiative centred on mental health awareness, early intervention, and connection. Through the platform, she works to listen to lived experiences, inspire others to recognise their own strength, and develop programs aimed at making mental health support more accessible. While still in its early stages, Within Aspirations has already connected individuals through shared stories and laid the foundation for future community-based initiatives.
Alongside this work, Cindy created A Wish for Desserts, a small business that supports mental health awareness while reflecting her belief that creativity, care, and shared experiences can be powerful tools for healing. For Cindy, baking is both an expression of gratitude and a way to create moments of connection - reminding people that support can take many forms.

Committed to inclusion in all areas of her advocacy, Cindy is also learning AUSLAN, reinforcing her belief that mental health support must be accessible to all Australians, including those who are hard of hearing. She maintains that mental health does not discriminate - and neither should care, understanding, or opportunity.
Leadership, to Cindy, is rooted in understanding rather than authority. She believes strong leaders recognise individual needs, encourage growth, and create environments where people feel safe to become their best selves. Through Miss World Australia, Cindy intends to amplify her mission by working alongside schools, NGOs, community organisations, and youth groups - using her platform to advocate for early intervention and long-term cultural change.

Looking ahead, Cindy hopes her work will contribute to safer, more informed communities, particularly among young people. Her goal is to reduce violence-based harm and suicide-related outcomes by addressing mental health earlier, more openly, and more compassionately. For Cindy, success is not measured by titles, but by impact - if her story helps even one person feel less alone, choose healing, or believe their life has value, then her purpose has been fulfilled.
